The Hyppo is opening new locations, and Cheese Daddy off to a good start

The Hyppo, the gourmet popsicle shop in downtown Gainesville, is opening new locations at The Esplanade in Butler Plaza on Archer Road and Roberts’ Stadium Club on University Avenue. The reception for Cheese Daddy, which specializes in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, has been great since its opening on Aug. 15.

The Hyppo aims to have the Butler Plaza location open in October. “We had such a good response when we first opened,” owner Stephen DiMare said. “Gainesville is just a city that gets what we’re doing. We want to branch out and become a bigger part of this city.”

The Hyppo will also be on the University of Florida campus in Little Hall Express, Graham Oasis, Rawlings Plaza, the Hub and at the Swamp on gamedays. However, in order to try the full range of popsicles made from fresh fruit, customers should visit one of the three stores.

Cheese Daddy offers grilled cheese sandwiches and creamy tomato bisque at Roberts’ Stadium Club. During the Gator football game against Kentucky, the restaurant had so many customers it ran out of ingredients, owner Andre Norman said. “That’s always a good problem for a restaurant to have,” he said.
