Amazon Planning a grocery store that could seriously compete with Publix?

Amazon.com is currently working on a drive-thru grocery store that could pose a serious threat to Publix Super Markets. The way the store would work is by having customers order their groceries online and then pick them up a little later. Amazon’s store would be around 11,600 square feet, compared to a Publix prototype, which is rumored to be around 20,000 square feet. Amazon believes the food market is going to be changing pretty soon. If Amazon chooses to bring this drive-thru concept to the Southeast, Lakeland based Super Market, Publix, could be in some serious trouble. As of now, Publix is dominating the Southeast as the highest grossing private supermarket grocer in the nation. If Amazon’s plans come to fruition, Publix will have to do something to compete with the convenience of Amazon’s drive-thru.
Publix has tried online grocery shopping before, in the 1990s, but people just weren’t comfortable with it, but with times changing, it might be Amazon that is ahead of the curve on this one.
