In a move that continues its knack for trying new and different products, fast-food chain Wendy’s will be adding organic tea to its permanent menu. The organic tea will be provided by Honest Tea, which is owned by Coca-Cola. The tea will be marketed in the restaurant as Honest Tropical Green Tea and will have multiple flavors. This is a large step for the organic food movement; appearance in a mainstream fast food restaurant is a far cry from the niche grocers and eateries where organic products first gained traction.
Organic food is no longer a product of a sub-culture or a select few individuals. The Organic Trade Association stated that over 80% of U.S. families now consume some organic products on a regular basis. Wendy’s has recognized this and is trying to provide consumers, especially Millennials who tend to desire organic foods more, with the products they want. Brandon Solano, the Chief Marketing Office of Wendy’s, has not ruled out the potential for expansion into other products but has not outlined anything specifically.
