Local Radio Studio Connects to Gainesville Community Through New Downtown Digs

JVC Broadcasting, a local radio studio, is offering a unique glimpse into the business with their new digs located at 491 W. University Avenue.  The downtown studio is located on the first floor of The Continuum Apartments, and features windows that allow University Ave passer-bys the opportunity to see right into live recordings.  JVC hosts two stations, Party 100.9 FM and 104.9 WOW FM.  JVC consists of a team of about 25 employees that make the studio tick.  They decided to move their studio from NW 13th to their current downtown location to capture a more central spot in the Gainesville community.

A team of highly experienced radio veterans runs the studio.  Sam Gerace, the General Manager for JVC, runs the studio’s two Gainesville stations as well as their two Ocala stations.  Ben Burris, also known as Ben Jammin, is the operations manager and program director for Party 100.9 and has over 17 years of experience in the radio business.  Burris has a hand in every aspect of running the business and the studio has grown rapidly since he joined the team in 2013.  On-air personality and 104.9 WOW FM program director, Wolf Bowers, has been in the radio business since the mid-1970s.  He explains how radio hosting has transformed from a revolving door position with one station to more of a long-term gig.  “Back then, if you were at a station for more than two years, you were considered a loser,” said Bowers.  Today, stations want hosts to stay on longer in order to form a relationship with the community.

JVC is a unique radio station that is listened to by every corner of Gainesville.  Now, the studio can be better connected to the community through their new digs in the heart of Gainesville.
