Being valued at a billion dollars is a huge achievement for a tech company, and 2014 proved that this achievement was more attainable than ever as 43 companies were evaluated for over a billion dollars. Companies such as Uber and Xiaomi were among some of the top priced companies. The rise in companies growing to over a billion can be attributed to rise in venture capital being fueled into these companies before they go public. Venture-capital firms now have a bit more money to play with from pension funds, university endowments and other resources. Out of the 73 private companies that sit in the billion-dollar club, this represents just 0.4% of the 16,700 active companies that have raised a billion in venture capital since 2011.
