Eric Gonzalez Leads the Local Builders Association

Contractors and subcontractors were busy during this holiday season. Eric Gonzalez, partner at E.G. Gonzalez Customs Homes, finished construction of two homes over the holiday season. Gonzalez also has a leadership position with the Builders Association of North Central Florida. Right now, builders’ biggest problem is trying to figure out how to get everything done but being busy is better than the prior year's slow business trends. Before working for his father, Gonzalez worked on a family’s friend’s private yacht as a first mate and handyman. It took negotiating but Gonzalez finally convinced his father to teach him the trade. He joined his father at E.G. Gonzalez Homes as a partner in 2000. E.G. Gonzalez Custom Homes builds homes between 2,500 SF and 4,500 SF and between $400,000 and $1,000,000. Gonzalez enjoys being able to create something that grows into a beautiful project.

Gonzalez began 2015 as president of the local builders association. Builders Association Members range from builders to suppliers to real estate to subcontractors. Although membership has decreased from 600 to 500, one of Gonzalez’s goals is to get more members involved in government affairs. It is important for the members to stay engaged in the spring-shed legislation that will impact North Central Florida. The goal is to be aware of the effect the legislation on the industry in order to plan for consequences regardless of the final decision.  This is the first involvement the association will have with local government. The association has a good working relationship with the government. They have been invited to monthly luncheons and to attend interviews to hire a new chief building official. We're thrilled and excited for Eric and his new role with BANCF, and look forward to all the great things to come!
