McDonald’s Transforms Itself Into a Healthy Café

The Corner by McCafe is a new Sydney restaurant that is run by McDonald’s. At first glance, the new McCafe is not the familiar McDonalds restaurant. There are no Big Macs or French fries! The Corner’s menu features salads with Moroccan roast chicken breast, chipotle pulled pork, brown rise, pumpkin, lentil and eggplant salads and sandwiches. To accompany these healthy food options are craft sodas. Lisa McComb, spokeswoman, describes the new restaurant as a learning lab to test new and different food and beverages.

There are no current plans to expand The Corner into the United States. McDonald’s is experiencing volatile changes in the U.S. market. November sales fell 4.6% at newly opened restaurants. In response to these changes, McDonald’s announced a new national marketing campaign that focuses on the Lovin’ part of its “I’m Lovin’ It” tag line.  This new campaign will help the company more from a “billions served” philosophy to a customer friendly philosophy of “billions heard.” The new marketing campaign along with The Corner by McCafe shows McDonald’s commit to change, experiment, learn, and grow.
