Innovation Square has always shown potential, but real examples of success are becoming more frequent. BioMonde, a biomedical company housed at the Innovation Hub at UF, has some great news to share! Their revolutionary product BioBag has been approved for patient use in the United States.
Their patented biosurgical debridement device is currently being ordered in all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. The device takes advantage of the secretions of larvae contained inside a bandage to help debride and disinfect non-healing wounds. The product is perfect for pressure ulcers, neuropathic ulcers, venous stasis ulcers and non-healing traumatic or surgical wounds. Currently, BioBag is the only Food and Drug Administration-cleared biosurgical dressing on the market. The product has been manufactured in Europe since 1994, and BioMonde has facilities in Wales and Germany along with its Gainesville location.
