60,000 Eastern Alachua County acres are being considered for commercial and residential development. Plum Creek Timber Company has submitted a sector plan application detailing a long term master plan of the development. So far, people have been coming down on both sides of the issue: for and against. Different from previous company hosted community meetings on the subject, the county will host a series of informative workshops for the public following the completion of a county report on the submitted application.

The county will host two general presentation workshops, one in east Gainesville and one in Hawthorne. The format will be staff presentations followed by public participation. After the workshops are held, the next step is for the commissioners to enter the public hearing phase.
