Evans Haile: Gainesville at Heart

Evans Haile may live in the Upper West Side of NYC, but don’t let that fool you; the renowned conductor was born, raised, and still often lives in Gainesville. Accomplished as a musical conductor, Haile got both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music at the Julliard School, and has performed all over the world.

Included in the multitude of orchestras Haile plays with internationally is the Gainesville Orchestra, the band closest to his heart. He is a huge advocate of the orchestra as an economic, as well as cultural, jump-starter. Haile claims policies in the state pushing science and math in schools are leaving out arts, which open the mind, promote creative thinking, and (most importantly according to Haile) attract better business. Businesses like to settle in cities with a good cultural surrounding, a trend that has stood true.

Evans Haile cares deeply about the environment as well, recently aiming his most recent concert with Gainesville Orchestra to center around protecting the fragile north Florida springs. Haile sees nothing wrong with utilizing the arts to increase awareness of local issues that matter, and we agree.

Overall, Evans Haile is quite the accomplished musician and activist, and his vision of arts improving the community makes us proud to call his home Gainesville.
