A recent article released by Insurance Journal ranked McGriff-Williams Insurance of Gainesville as the nation’s best agency to work for. Owners Lee McGriff and Mack Williams as well as their staff of 20 employees agree that the business’ success is due largely to a focus on the importance and appreciation of each member of the team.
The agency was founded by former University of Florida football coach Lee McGriff, who was joined shortly thereafter by his friend, and running companion, Mack Williams. The firm started as an exclusive Nationwide agency, but Nationwide’s move to an independent-agency model in 2008 allowed McGriff-Williams Insurance to expand into independent markets. Today, the agency writes between $19 million to $20 million in premium in property/casualty business, all through their staff of 20 employees. Having purchased a Blue Cross Health Insurance agency earlier this year, McGriff Williams has also recently entered the world of employee benefits.
Both McGriff and Williams believe that it is their strong team of employees that have helped cultivate a successful business. McGriff specifically credited his employees for helping their business grow while making it a good place to work that is welcoming to clients. Staff members responded by noting the sacrifices and commitment made by McGriff and Williams for their employees.
One satisfied employee stated: “Our agency owners… always look to take care of each employees needs before themselves. It’s a very unselfish atmosphere, which makes us such a strong team.”
