This year, Newberry’s Cornfield Maze, located on Hodge Farms, marks its 10th year. The corn maze, just 10 miles west of Gainesville, is open on five weekends leading up to Halloween. The 10-acre autumn attraction includes a haunted house, hayrides, zombie paintball and a kids’ zone.
In southern Alachua County, the Coon Hollo Corn Maze in Micanopy will be open through Nov. 3. In northern Alachua County, the Rogers Farm Fall Festival features a corn maze and will run through Nov. 5.
The Hodge family grows watermelons, blueberries, string beans and tobacco on their 1,300-acre farm. Brad Hodge said he corn maze was created to supplement the agriculture interests of the family. The corn maze is to scare people and make them have fun, he said. The corn maze, which employs almost 100 people, may be difficult to navigate. Don’t forget your flashlight, and if you hear a chainsaw, hope you don’t get chased down!
