Tim Giuliani is all for the gold-plated shovels and ribbon-cuttings with giant scissors when you picture an image of a groundbreaking. Those images represent economic growth in Alachua County. Giuliani even has a gold shovel dating back to 1962 that leans against his wall in his downtown Gainesville corner office.
The president and CEO of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is focused on creating a future for the area through his organization’s Council for Economic Outreach and other initiatives. “We’re seeking to achieve our mission of this being a global hub of talent, innovation and opportunity,” he said.
Giuliani, 32, is young for a chamber president. At 28, he earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives for membership development. Giuliani’s enthusiasm and insight makes him highly qualified for a vibrant college community like Gainesville. When he took over the Chamber two years ago, he began working to build bonds with the technology companies in the area and encouraging the Chamber to become more vocal and outspoken on public policy matters. One example is Envision Alachua, the Chamber-backed initiative in favor of the Plum Creek development in eastern Alachua County.
