The University of Florida College of Engineering’s contribution to the university’s pre-eminence goal received a $1 million donation. The donation is toward the construction of the $53 million, five-story UF College of Engineering Innovation NEXUS Building. The donors were Mindtree co-founder Subroto Bagchi and his wife, Susmita Bagchi.
The Innovation NEXUS Building project includes a 10,000-square-foot renovation of the Nuclear Sciences Building and a 90,000-square-foot addition. To put that in perspective, that’s about the same size as a typical city block or commercial distribution warehouse!
Envisioned as a hub for UF’s engineering faculty and students, the NEXUS Building will be located across from the Reitz Union. The new building includes five floors that will have computer engineering, a freshman design lab, prototyping lab, engineering experiment station, advanced manufacturing, a graduate student innovation space and biotech labs. The estimated completion date for construction is December 2016.
